On the 21st of December of 2006, the presidents of several international associations of Catalan Studies agreed the foundation of the International Federation of Catalan Associations (FIAC):

Anglo-Catalan Society (ACS)
Associació Internacional de Llengua i Literatura Catalanes (AILLC)
Association Française des Catalanistes (AFC)
Associazione Italiana di Studi Catalani (AISC)
Deutscher Katalanistenverband (DKV)
North American Catalan Society (NACS)
Societat Catalana de Llengua i Literatura (SCLL)

These academic institutions represent Catalan language and culture in several countries. They have always tried to stay in contact albeit without an organisation to co-ordinate and promote their efforts. Therefore, the FIAC does not replace any of the initiatives that already exist but it will seek to cement the dialogue between the associations in and outside the Catalan speaking territories, thereby fostering their work.

The most important aims of this new federation are: the coordination of actions to encourage Catalan culture throughout the world, and, the organization of collaborative projects in order to guarantee the highest promotion in the field of international Catalan activities.
